Echigo Hill Side National Park located next to Nagaoka New Town in the southwest of Nagaoka with admission. Some part was finally opened at the end of July. We were invited for the Openinf Memorial Ceremony to perform the Taiko. It's so good and seems to cost a lot to maintain as if it can blow off the Depression as to be nationalized. Thank you , Japan! And hold out , Japan!
The address for our leader, Mr. Kobayashi, may be the custom, but instead of that , we can see him being addicted to drinking as usual.
They have been married for 6 years with no children. I don't think they had been too busy doing what they liked to do to make their baby.Anyway at last their first baby came to them. He is a gem of a baby boy to deserve to be waited for , isn't he?.
It started as a nemorial service for the dying victims at an air-raid on Aug. 1 in 1945.These days we have the Festival Eve on Aug. 1 as the beginning with the warrior march on Aug. 2, some events in the daytime on Aug. 3. And at night on Aug. 2 & 3 we climax with the Firework located at the bankes of the Shinano-river, the longest in Japan. But this year the warrior march wa cut down to only the center and the Firework was also postponed for several days because of the bad appearance of the clouds. Reservations for hotels were cancelled and meals were thrown away. The situation went so bad that it seemed to follow up the Depression.
On Aug. 3 each of Yukyu Daiko joint groups compete their art at the corner of the main street. On the Eve joint groups performed the music "Yukyu Daiko" together.
This is a Nagaoka Technical Science University's group, "TsuruKame-kai" (tsuru is crane and kame is tortoise).Many members have played Taiko for a long time such as 8 years so they never have toubles in teaching newcomers even every year some members graduate from school.
Many summer festivals are also held in cities, towns and villages around Nagaoka. The guy playing the biggest 3 shaku ( 1 shaku = 0.303 meter, 0.995 foot)Daiko is Mr. Watanabe , who is a young owner of a beauty parlor."I'm too busy to go to Germany.," he said. It's a pity for him to remain in Japan with Miss. Okawa , who is a his emploee. Visiting members are missing them a lot, too.
These 2 crazy guys being on the spree at a festival are Mr. Shimizu & Kabasawa. Our group would have been much more refined if they weren't in ours, I'm sure.But their propaganda is so effective that they are allowed to behave themselves in this way.
Miss Banba is a rather newcomer. She is stoical enough to insist on not performing on the stage and only keeping on practice till she'll get satisfied with her art. She works at the old department store in town.Accidentally we performed Taikoes at the corner in front of her workshop on the Eve.
Mr. Sato got married with Miss. Wakai, who is also our member, last year. He has been trying to please his wife since then. e has such a fine physique that he is mainly in charge of carrying big taikoes. As his wife is also very tall, they need some consideration for how to spend nights, I guess. She'll be on the next edition.
Miss. Morohashi ,called Morohashi Jr. ( because we have one more Morohashi) is so pretty that even the taiko sticks seem hard to keep. I think she may be the youngest in our team. I'm not sure how old she is ,of course! She is never absent from practicing nor complains about her seniors just like someone else does. I don't know whether she is so nice with a secret end of getting a popular idol in this team.
This is Mr. Tojo coming out. Look at him! How high spirits he is in! But a great thing is not only himself but also his car, actually his company's car! This car can afford anything even 3 shaku Daiko. I really appreciate the car.
